THE Brunei KBT Dart team made it to the third spot in the inaugural 27th Malaysia Open Dart Championship which took place at the Bayview Hotel in Langkawi, Malaysia last week.

From August 31 to September 2, some 50 teams participated in the tournament, which comprised teams coming from Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia as well as two teams from Brunei Brunei KBT, and BSRC, who managed to clinch the ninth place.

Led by the team leader, Pg Mohammad Pg Hj Matarsard, the Brunei KBT team was also represented by Kamaluddin Bongsu, Hairul Azman Hj Bujang, Hj Zuraini Hj Md Yassin and Dyg Kamariah Hj Suhai in the women's singles event.

With skills and precision, the Brunei KBT team cruised through the group stages but were brought down in the semi-finals, where they suffered a 7-4 loss to Singapore's national team, settling for third place.

Mad House from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia emerged champions, followed by Singapore's national team in second place and Kuala Lumpur's Golden Sun Dragon was in fourth.

In the singles event, Pg Mohammad and Hairul Azman were ranked between 17 to 32 of the best players, while in the women's singles, Dyg Kamariah earned her place in the fifth spot.

Team leader of the Brunei KBT team, Pg Hj Mohammad, expressed his delight and was impressed with his team's performance, proving they were a force to be reckoned with, even at an international level.

Once again, the Brunei darters did the country proud, after only recently coming out as first runner-ups in both the 2007 Singapore Open and the Dart Championships in Malaysia last August slowly but surely bringing up the country's name in the world of darts in preparation for next year's 2008 Asia Pacific Cup in New Zealand.
